In this video, we demonstrate how to do a quick color change on the SWF control panel without going into the needle selection screen. We begin by checking the design that is currently sewing and identifying that the wrong color is in use. In this example, the machine is sewing dark green on needle number 1, but the correct thread is the lighter green on needle number 15.
Because there is thread hanging down, we first execute a trim by pressing the Trim button and then the Start button. We then tell the machine to move to the correct needle by pressing the plus 10 button and the 5, which places needle number 15 into the sewing position. If we were to press Start at this point, the machine would return to needle number 1, so we must reassign the color by pressing the CL button. The display then changes from sewing on needle number 1 to assigning that color position to needle number 15.
Since some stitches have already been sewn in the wrong dark green, we then return to the beginning of that color so the section can be resewn correctly. While it is possible to press the Stop button several times to back up, we use the float function for a faster method. We enter Float, choose to float by color, back up to the beginning of that color by pressing Previous twice, and then press Start to resume sewing with the proper color.
A quick color change goes more smoothly when your cones are organized and consistent, so it may be worth stocking Madeira thread.
