In this video, we show how to install the SWF control panel on a 1501 embroidery machine when it is shipped separately from the machine. We first locate the control panel in its styrofoam box, carefully remove the tape and foam, and place the panel face down on a flat surface, preferably with a towel underneath to prevent scratches. We then find the wires taped at the back of the arm, remove the tape, and carefully unwrap the wiring, taking care not to damage the wires if using scissors or another sharp tool.
Next, we remove the four Phillips head screws from the back of the control panel. Using a six millimeter Allen wrench, we remove the bracket from the machine arm that holds the control panel, being careful not to drop any hardware into the Y-axis tracks on either side of the machine. We then attach the bracket to the back of the control panel with the Phillips head screws and washers, taking care not to over-tighten them. While supporting the control unit, we set the bracket in place on the machine, line up the holes, and loosely tighten the Allen screws so the panel is held securely.
We then remove the three thumb screws from the back of the control panel while gently holding the panel closed with the opposite hand, and swing it open to access the connections inside. The wires are passed through the hole in the bracket and the hole in the back of the control panel door. The two wire ends are different sizes, so they only fit in one orientation. With the machine unplugged, we connect the power wire to the bottom connection and then connect the larger ribbon cable in its designated spot, pressing each connection in gently until it is snug and the clips lock, without putting undue pressure on the board.
Finally, we tuck the wires in, carefully close the control panel without pinching any wiring, and reinstall the thumb screws. The last step is connecting the grounding wire to one of the screws on the back of the panel by removing the screw, placing the grounding wire under it, and tightening it back down. Once this is complete, the control panel is fully assembled and ready for use.
