In this video, we introduce the primary functions found within the Settings button on the SWF embroidery machine. These include scale, which controls the physical size of the design; angle, which controls the orientation of the design; and the X and Y satin function, which is used to add pull compensation.
We then focus on the X and Y scale functions, which are used to change the size of the embroidery file. One important point to remember is that when we rescale a design at the machine, the stitch count does not change. Because of that, we typically do not recommend scaling a design up or down by more than 10 to 15 percent as a general rule.
We explain that X scale changes the design from left to right when facing the machine, while Y scale changes it from front to back, or top to bottom. To adjust either setting, we use the up-down controls to move the cursor next to the function we want to change, then press the Set button. We then enter the desired percentage. Any value over 100 percent increases the size of the design, while any value under 100 percent decreases it.
We also show a sample adjustment by reducing the design size by 10 percent. We enter 90 percent for the Y scale and press Set to confirm it. As a general rule, we typically make the same change to both directions so we do not alter the aspect ratio, or the relationship of length to height. We then move to X scale, enter 90 percent, and press Set again so both X and Y are set to 90 percent.
