How to Set the Angle Function on an SWF Embroidery Machine

In this video, we explain how the angle function changes the orientation of an embroidery design in relation to the head of the embroidery machine. When sewing, we always want to keep the least amount of material underneath the embroidery head, so the angle setting helps us position garments for smoother handling and better access.

For a standard left chest logo on a golf shirt, we hoop the garment so the collar goes through the bed arm. For a hooded sweatshirt, we want the hood away from the pantograph and out on the table, so we hoop it with the waistband toward the back of the machine. That setup uses an angle of 180 degrees. We also sew at 180 degrees for items such as ball caps.

We may also use a 90-degree angle for garments such as jackets with a zipper front or button-up fronts when sewing a left chest logo. In that case, we hoop the garment so the hoop is straight up and down, which places it at 90 degrees in relation to the embroidery machine and helps keep excess material out from under the head.

To set the angle, we use the up-down control to move the cursor next to the angle setting, then press the set button. We then enter the angle we want to use, such as 180 degrees for a hat, and press the set button again to lock in the value. Once that is done, we are ready to sew.

When you're rotating designs for caps, jackets, or left chest placement, having the right hoops and hoopers makes setup easier.
