How to Use the Embroidery Machine Backstitch Unit Function

In this video, we explain how the BK-ST unit function, or backstitch unit, works on the embroidery machine. This function controls how many stitches the machine backs up each time we press the stop button.

We use this setting when there is a thread break or a bobbin run out, because simply fixing the issue and pressing start could cause missed stitches. We typically set the backstitch unit to one stitch so that each time we press stop, the machine backs up one stitch only. This gives us the most control, although we can increase the value if we want the machine to back up more than one stitch at a time.

To use the function, we use the up-down control to place the cursor on the backstitch unit and press start. We then move the cursor next to the backstitch unit setting and press the set button. Next, we enter the number of stitches we want the machine to back up each time we press the stop button, and press the set button again to lock in the value. In this example, we enter one stitch for the best control.

Since thread breaks are part of why this setting matters, it may be a good time to check GPI's Madeira thread collection.
