In this video, we explain the alternate use of the start button on an SWF embroidery machine. In addition to functioning as the regular start switch, the button can also be used as a jog control that lets the machine sew at a very slow pace. We press and hold the start button to keep the machine running slowly, and as soon as we release it, the machine returns to its normal operating speed.
We can use this feature in situations where a design is sewing close to the hoop and we do not want to run at full speed. We let the design sew near the hoop, stop the machine, and then press and hold the start button until the stitching clears the area. This also keeps us in a position to move immediately to the stop button, which is located right next to the start button, if the design gets too close or we are not comfortable continuing.
We can also use the slow jog function when lining up two sections of a design after backing up stitches. If we are not sure whether we backed up far enough, we do not need to let the machine sew forward a large number of stitches at full speed. Instead, we press and hold the start button, watch where the first few stitches begin to sew, and if the placement looks correct, we release the button and allow the machine to continue at normal speed.
When you're creeping a design near the edge of a frame, it helps to have the right setup from GPI's hoops and hoopers collection.
