How to Replace the Jump Solenoid on an Embroidery Machine

In this video, we replace the jump solenoid, which engages and disengages with the reciprocator to allow the needle bar to rise during color changes. It also engages when the front switch is turned off, pushing the reciprocator aside so the needle bars do not move. When this solenoid fails, we begin by removing the cover from the wiper motor to gain access to the part.

With the solenoid exposed, we use an Allen wrench to loosen and remove the Allen screws that hold the bracket in place. We then pull the jump solenoid out and remove the nut so the solenoid can come free from the bracket. The bracket itself is reused, since it does not need to be replaced.

Next, we remove the thread rack by taking out the six screws, then raise and support the rack securely so it does not tip over. We follow the solenoid wire to its connection, disconnect the old solenoid, and reconnect the new one. We make sure the wire is fully seated, the clip locks closed, and the wires are positioned properly before lowering the thread rack back into place, being careful not to pinch any wires underneath.

Once the thread rack is reinstalled, we mount the new solenoid and bracket back in position, tighten the Allen head screws, and replace the wiper motor cover. As we reinstall the cover, we again make sure no wires are pinched. After tightening everything down, the jump solenoid replacement is complete.

If you’re opening the machine to replace a jump solenoid, it’s a good time to review handy embroidery supplies for reassembly and checks.
