How to Replace the Embroidery Head on an Embroidery Machine

In this video, we reinstall the embroidery head by first confirming the current needle position so the correct thread take-up lever will align properly during installation. We press number one on the keypad so the color change motor is set to needle position one, then lift all of the thread take-up levers. To keep them out of the way, we can start them upward and hold them together with a rubber band before setting the embroidery head into position.

We then place the head carefully by setting the rail onto the bottom guide first. As we position it, we check that the wiper passes freely through the Velcro strip and line up needle number one with the thread take-up lever cam. We gently lift on the head to make sure the LM guide is behind the embroidery head, lift the thread take-up levers, and slide the LM guide back and forth to confirm alignment. Once everything is lined up, we push gently back and down on the embroidery head while slowly lowering the thread take-up levers one at a time until the head seats tightly against the LM guide.

Next, we use a 3 millimeter Allen wrench to install and tighten the Allen screws that secure the embroidery head to the LM guide. To adjust the thread take-up lever guide rail, we first seat one screw lightly, then move the head to the opposite side of the machine. In this example, we move from needle one to needle fifteen using plus ten and five. If the head moves smoothly, that indicates it is installed properly. We then tighten one screw on the far side, return the head using the numeric keypad, set the other screw, and come back once more to seat the last screw before fully tightening all of them.

Finally, we reinstall the covers by removing the threads from the holder and gently pulling them taut while letting the cover fall back into place. We start the top Phillips head screws without fully tightening them, check that no threads are caught in the take-up levers or covers, and reinstall the remaining screw before tightening everything fully. We then pull the threads into the holder holding spring and trim them to about three quarters of an inch to one inch from the spring. The machine is then ready to use.

After replacing an embroidery head, a quick cleanup around the reassembled areas is easier with embroidery cleaning supplies.
