In this video, we install a new presser foot and secure it in place. We first set the presser foot in position and tighten the holding spring, noting that this spring only holds the thread and is not used as an adjustment. We then locate the needle holder, position the presser foot over the needle bar, set the needle holder in place, and make sure the rubber washer is included before starting the screw that holds the presser foot assembly together.
Next, we bring the selected needle into the sewing position using the numeric keypad. To adjust presser foot height, we rotate the indicator wheel until the needle is at the lowest point of the sewing stroke, which is 178 degrees. We place the presser foot adjustment gauge under the foot and adjust the foot height until the gauge fits snugly with just a little resistance. If the gauge is too tight or too loose, we make small corrections and retighten the screw until the setting is correct.
Once the presser foot is adjusted properly, we tighten the screw firmly, since it is what holds the foot in place. We then reinstall the needle, making sure it is seated fully upward and that the eye of the needle faces straight out or slightly over the operator's right shoulder. After tightening the needle holder, we slide the cover back into place without rethreading the machine, install the screws in sequence, and secure the cover.
The final step is to thread the needle and trim the thread. With the presser foot installed, adjusted, and the covers reassembled, the machine is ready to return to sewing.
