How to Remove the Picker Solenoid on an Embroidery Machine

In this video, we remove the cover on the bed arm to begin accessing the picker solenoid. The cover is held in place by three screws, and a short offset screwdriver can make this step easier. We then remove the needle plate so we can disconnect the trimmer linkage, move it up and out of the way, and expose the solenoid. To create a little more room, we also remove the top screw and move the automatic oiler aside.

With better access, we remove the Allen screws that hold the solenoid in place. A T-handle Allen wrench can help break these screws free if they are tight. Once loosened, we slide the assembly forward and disconnect the linkage by gently pulling the picker forward and removing the linkage screw on the side. We then remove the bracket by taking out the Phillips head screws, which gives us enough clearance to lift the solenoid up and slide it back. As we work it out, we keep the shaft straight and gently wiggle the assembly until it comes free.

To access the solenoid wire, we remove the rear cover, which is held on by four screws, and then remove the back deck by lifting it past the bracket and gently pulling it free. We trace the wire down through the machine to the joint board, where it connects with the wire bundle. After snipping the wire ties, we disconnect the old wire and feed the new one from the front side of the machine so the clip can drop down into place. For better access to the connections, we remove the plastic cover over the electrical connections on the board, make the connection, reinstall the wire ties, and then reassemble the machine.

If you’re servicing the picker and trim system, it may help to keep a few core embroidery supplies on hand.
