In this video, we walk through the results of an I test to evaluate thread tensions on an embroidery machine. Most threads show balanced tension, but the gray and red threads reveal too much bobbin thread on the back. The yellow thread serves as a good example of what proper tension should look like.
We identify the red thread's issue as a top tension problem rather than a bobbin tension problem. To correct it, we slightly loosen the main tensioner, pre-tensioner, and upper pre-tensioner—each one accounting for about a third of the total thread tension. After adjusting, we re-hoop backing material and rerun the test, this time sewing only with the problematic red thread (needle two) multiple times to fine-tune the tension.
Between each pass, we remove the hoop and check the back of the stitching. After some minor tweaks, the tension looks much better. We suggest slightly widening the bobbin thread for even cleaner results, but overall, the machine is now ready for operation.
