In this video, we make the final adjustments to the P3 trimmer after seeing that the knife throw has been set too far past the blade. We loosen the adjustment screw enough for the collar to slide on the shaft, because if the collar does not move, no real adjustment is being made.
We then continue adjusting the knife throw forward and backward until the tip of the moving knife is just sticking out past the fixed mandible. As we do this, we make sure the temporary screw placed inside the shaft is holding the shaft up taut so it does not fall down. We repeatedly check the throw by using the machine's trim function until the position is correct.
Once the moving tip extends just past the fixed edge, we tighten the adjustment screw securely so the setting does not shift. We run the trim function again to confirm nothing moved and that the trimmer is still adjusted properly. Finally, we remove the temporary screw and reinstall the needle plate and back cover. The trimmer is now properly adjusted.
Once the trimmer throw is set, clearing the knife area is easier with embroidery cleaning supplies.
