How to Remove the Presser Foot on an Embroidery Machine

In this video, we remove the presser foot by first taking off the front face plate. We loosen the Phillips head screw on one side, loosen the matching Phillips head screw on the other side, and then remove the straight slot screws across the front. Once those screws are out, we slide the cover off to the side.

We then move down to the needle holder area, unthread the needle, loosen the needle, and remove it first. Next, we remove the upper screw, then loosen the needle holder screw until the needle holder drops completely out. We are careful to catch any parts as they fall so nothing gets lost.

Before pulling the presser foot out, we make sure the head we are working on is not positioned over the bed arm. If it is, we use the numeric keypad to move to a different needle position, such as needle number 5. We then let the presser foot hang down and loosen the screws on the holding spring just enough to create clearance. The screws do not need to come all the way out; they only need to be loosened enough for the presser foot to be removed.

Since presser foot service often overlaps with needle-area work, take a look at GPI’s embroidery needles while you’re in there.
