In this video, we install the new encoder by first making sure the connection at the machine is secure, then adding wire ties to fasten the wire. We place the encoder on the end of the shaft and reinstall the screws removed earlier, making sure the washers are in place, especially the small lock washer. As we start the screws, we leave them loose and align the bracket so the screws sit in the middle of the slotted holes, giving us adjustment in either direction, then we snug them temporarily.
We then set the encoder position. First, we make sure the hand wheel is at 100 degrees. We turn the machine off and back on, and as soon as the screen goes blank, we press the EMB call button and the setting button at the same time. We scroll to encoder setting and press the set key. The display shows encoder setting and an angle reading. Without exiting, we rotate the collar until the machine beeps, then check the reading and adjust the hand wheel slightly until the display reads 100 degrees while it is still beeping.
Once the reading is correct, we tighten the set screw on the encoder collar, tighten the set screw on the other side of the collar, and then tighten the screws holding the bracket to the machine. To stop the sound, we press the previous key, cursor down to exit, and press the set key so the machine resets itself. We then reinstall the covers by setting the back deck in place, gently nudging it forward so the spring clips lock while lifting the back so the bracket clears the top edge of the machine, then letting the cover drop down and replacing its screws. Finally, we reinstall the large cover, the small cover, and the three remaining screws.
When setting an encoder and checking machine response, keep your bench ready with embroidery supplies.
