In this video, we show how to center a hoop as part of setting up a design for tubular embroidery. We begin by putting the number 1 needle into the sewing position as a reference point. To do that, we use the control panel and press 2 first, then 1. This ensures the embroidery head is forced to move into position, rather than assuming it is already correctly aligned if number 1 was previously selected.
Once the head is in the number 1 needle position, we can center the hoop using one of two methods. The first method is to align the left centermost screw on the hoop with the number 1 needle. For round 9, 12, 15, and 18 centimeter hoops, we use the pantograph movement controls to move the hoop left, right, forward, or back until that screw lines up directly under the needle. The speed button can be set to low, medium, or high, and in this demonstration we use medium speed for easier control.
The second method is the rubber band trick. We place an elastic band over the hoop, twist it halfway, and secure it on the opposite side so it forms crosshairs at the center. After placing the hoop on the machine, we line the number 1 needle up directly over that center point. As shown in the video, the center point remains the same whether we use a 9, 12, 15, or 18 centimeter hoop, allowing us to confirm the hoop is centered and ready for the next setup step.
For tubular setup and accurate centering, the right hoops and hoopers can make a real difference.
