In this video, we show how to assign thread colors to a design after it has been called up on the machine. With the cursor on needle settings number 2, we press the set button to open the color assignment screen. The cursor begins on the first position, and the display shows two numbers separated by a slash. The first number is the color position the machine is asking for, while the second number is the total number of colors in the design.
We then enter the needle number for each color in sequence. In this example, the first color is green on needle 15, so we press plus 10 and then 5, which displays as F. Needles 1 through 9 appear as their number, while needles 10 through 15 display as A, B, C, D, E, and F. We continue assigning each design color to its matching needle position until the full sequence has been entered.
When all colors have been assigned, we press the set button once to move the cursor to the bottom line. With the cursor flashing on end, we press set again to lock in the colors. The machine then returns to the basic needle settings display, and we press the previous button to back out just as we did when viewing the file names.
We also note that entering the same needle number twice in a row will cause the machine to stop. We use that intentionally for applique, where a pause is needed between the outline stitch and the tack-down stitch, or when sewing a design with more than 15 colors so there is time to change thread spools. At this point, the first design has been called in and its colors have been assigned.
Once your needle sequence is set, using dependable Madeira thread makes color changes easier to manage.
