How to Hoop a Polo Shirt for a Left Chest Embroidery Logo

In this video, we demonstrate a typical hooping method for a left chest logo on a polo shirt. We begin by laying the polo on a flat, stable surface and lining up a ruler vertically with the neck seam. We then measure the center point between the last button on the placket and the bottom of the placket, and mark that location with disappearing chalk.

Using that first mark, we place a second ruler horizontally so the two rulers cross, then mark the cross point with disappearing chalk. This becomes the center point of the design. We next place the backing on the bottom hoop, then position both inside the shirt so they are centered around the marked point.

We press the top hoop down in a direct downward motion to secure the garment. Once the hoop is in place, we run our fingers inside the hoop to check the fabric. Depending on the material, a small amount of adjustment may be acceptable, but if the fabric is heavily wrinkled or creased, we re-hoop the garment. We also take care not to stretch the fabric too tightly, since that can cause the material to contract after removal and create puckering in the finished embroidery.
