In this video, we show how to change a needle on the machine using a flathead screwdriver. We insert the screwdriver into the needle screw and loosen it just enough to break the screw loose. Once the screw is loosened, we can safely remove the old needle.
We then take the new needle and guide it up through the presser foot and into place. We remember that the needle has a front and a back, so it must be inserted correctly. After placing the new needle into the hole, we use another needle through the front of the eyelet to help pivot and straighten it.
We make sure the needle is aligned as straight as possible. While there is a small amount of tolerance to the left or right and the machine may still sew correctly, too much misalignment can put torque on the thread during sewing and cause thread breaks. Once the needle is straight, we tighten the needle screw again and then thread the needle.
