In this video, we cover an important part of machine maintenance: general cleaning. We keep the machine as dust-free as possible by occasionally dusting the thread tree, the embroidery head, and behind the pre-tensioners, where lint and debris can collect over time.
The most important area to clean is underneath the needle plate, where the trimmer operates. Threads often collect in the back right-hand corner, and if too many build up, they can cause the trimming mechanism to malfunction. To clean this area, we use the offset wrench to remove the two straight-slot screws from the needle plate. We do not remove the set screw in the front right-hand corner. We then use either a toothbrush or compressed air to thoroughly clean out the area, especially behind the trimmer where threads tend to gather.
For a more thorough cleaning, we remove the two Phillips head screws on the side of the cover around the hook assembly and take off the cover. While cleaning, we are careful around the picker assembly so we do not pull or push on it. We then clean the area with a rag, paper towel, or compressed air, gently removing lint and dust from around the hook assembly and surrounding parts.
When cleaning is complete, we slide the cover back into place and reinstall its screws. We then replace the needle plate by lining it up with the set screw in the front and reinstalling the two straight-slot screws. At that point, the daily machine maintenance procedure is complete.
