In this video, we walk through greasing the X and Y pantograph, beginning with the X pantograph. We start by removing the six Phillips head screws that hold the cover in place, then lift the cover off and set it aside. With the cover removed, we can see the track that needs grease. The goal is to maintain a nice film of grease on the track, so we first wipe away the old grease with a rag.
We then apply fresh grease by placing a small amount on a Q-tip or on a finger and laying a nice film across the front edge, back edge, and top of the track. Using the pantograph movement controls, we move the pantograph all the way to one end to grease one side of the track, then shift it all the way to the opposite side to grease the other side of the rail.
At this stage, we leave the cover off because the Y rails still need to be greased. To continue, we move the pantograph toward the middle and begin removing the Phillips head screws and the Allen screws at either end of the X pantograph. On the right-hand side, as viewed from the front of the machine where the control panel is located, we remove the Phillips head screw first and then use a 3-millimeter Allen wrench to loosen and remove the Allen screws.
We repeat the same process on the other side of the X pantograph, removing the Phillips head screw and then the three Allen head screws, taking care not to drop the lock washer or flat washer. Once all screws have been removed, we carefully lift the pantograph up and set it aside.
