In this video, we show how to grease the color change cam and gears. We begin by removing the cover of the color change motor, which is held in place by four Phillips head screws. Using the numeric keypad, we shift the head to the other side to reach the remaining screws. After removing those screws, we take off the back cover behind the head and loosen the bracket to improve access to the color change motor cover.
With the area open, we locate the cam and several gears inside. We then remove the old grease as thoroughly as possible using Q-tips, rags, paper towels, or another method that works well. As we clean, we take care to keep lint out of the area so the components stay as clean as possible.
Once the old grease is removed, we apply a nice heavy film of grease to both the gears and the cam. After the cam and gears are fully coated, we move the head from end to end several times to help distribute the grease evenly across the entire assembly.
When the grease has been spread properly, we reinstall the covers and return everything to its original position. That completes the greasing process for the color change cam.
Because this job starts with removing old residue, GPI's embroidery cleaning collection is the most relevant fit.
