How to Check Hoop Fit in Tracing with Forte Digitizing Software

In this video, we show how to avoid hitting a hoop by checking that a design fits within the sewing field before embroidering. We follow three basic steps in Forte Digitizing Software to confirm proper hoop selection and design placement.

First, we select the entire design by going to the Edit menu and choosing Select Entire Design, or by pressing Ctrl+A on the keyboard. We then click the Center Design icon so the design is properly positioned in the work area.

Next, we display a hoop image by going to the Display menu, selecting Display Hoop, and then Select Hoop. When the hoop window opens, we can choose an existing hoop size or create a new one. In this example, we create a 120 mm round hoop by selecting Circle under Hoop Style, leaving the connection point at the top, entering 4.75 for the hoop size, keeping the safety margin at 4921, naming it 120 mm round hoop, and saving the changes.

Once the hoop appears in the work area, we compare the design to the safety margin line. If the design comes too close to that border, the hoop is too small for the design. We then return to the hoop selection window, choose the next size up, and confirm that the design now fits properly without risking contact with the hoop.

If hoop fit is something you check often, it’s worth browsing GPI’s hoops and hoopers.
