In this video, we show how to clean and oil the rotary hook, which is located under the needle plate and is one of the most important areas for daily machine care. Because it works harder than any other moving part, regular attention to this area helps keep the machine running smoothly.
We remove the bobbin case to clean out any debris around the hook and prepare it for oiling. We can use tweezers to dislodge any threads that have accumulated during the day, and we then use canned air to blow out lint that builds up as the machine works.
Finally, we apply two drops of oil to the rotary hook, preferably at the V-groove as shown. After oiling, we leave the bobbin case out right away, since oil in the bobbin can lead to unwanted thread breaks.
Reach the rotary hook's oil points with a needle-nose pen oiler.
