How to Replace the Needle Bar on a Tajima Neo

In this video, we show how to replace the needle bar on a Tajima Neo. To begin, we remove the tension base, then the top cover, and finally the face plate. Once the face plate is off, we move the needle bar to be changed by performing a manual color change on the controller. We then remove the needle clamp screw so the needle clamp and needle can be taken off.

Next, we loosen the upper dead point stopper and the needle bar connecting stud. While holding the upper dead point stopper, we pull the needle bar out from the top. To install the new needle bar, we first install the needle bar holding screw. We slide the needle bar holding spring, tapered end up, onto the needle bar, then slide the needle bar into the needle case, making sure it passes through the washer that the spring rests on.

We then slide the upper dead point stopper onto the needle bar, followed by the needle bar connecting stud. The presser foot spring is installed on the bottom of the needle bar, and the O-ring is slid onto the needle bar with the concave side facing up. After that, we install the needle clamp, making sure the screw is angled slightly to the right. The screw should be tightened just enough to hold the clamp in place, but not fully tightened yet.

Finally, we install the needle with the scarf, or undercut, facing the back and the eye facing forward. We make sure the needle is seated fully into the needle bar and then tighten the needle bar clamp. After changing the needle bar, we make sure to set the upper and lower dead points.

When replacing a needle bar, it’s smart to inspect and refresh your embroidery needles at the same time.
