Sewing on
Leather
Sewing on leather can be easy when you keep a few simple rules in mind:
- Slow the machine down.
- Always use a wedge-point needle. A wedge-point slices into the leather rather than punching holes into it.
- Increase the stitch length. Perforating the leather too frequently can cause ripping.
- Decrease the density.
- Delete all short stitches.
- Use tearaway backing on the front and back to reduce hoop burn (after hooping remove front backing from design area).
- Always practice on a scrap hide (or vinyl) before attempting on garment. Removing stitches may weaken leather and cause tearing.
