Error 650 USB Flash Drive for SWF Embroidery Machine

I bought a new USB flash drive to use on my SWF. I saved the

design to my new flash drive. However, once I tried pulling it up on

the machine, I get an error 650. I had this happen before when I first

bought a new USB and someone told me what to do to get rid of this

error. I just do not remember. Can someone please tell me what to do?
There are a few things to know about the USB flash devices. First any device

that has higher than 2 Gigabyte will not work, as your machine does not have the

capability to read large file formats. And you really do not need one that big

sinc a 100,000 stitch design will only use 72,000 bytes in size. So most people

have a 256 Megavyte USB flash stick, and they use the larger Gigabyte devices

for design back-ups in case your computer crashes.

Second thing is that there are many USB flash sticks like Sandisk and others

that have a file management system on it, so the first time you plug it into an

open USB slot on your computer, it loads software on your computer so you can

manage the device. The problem with this is as you try to load a design from

that USB to your embroidery machine, it will not be able to see past the file

management system on the device, And there is no way to erase it or format it

off the device. So make sure you read the device first from your "My Computer"

section on your computer to see if such a file management system exists on the

USB.

Third and final thing to remember is that some USB flash stick are Pre-formatted

to what is called FAT32. This format is a perfect format for storing large files

like music, or pictures or programs. And the FAT32 format interfaces well with

windows programs. The problem is your machine has a 16 bit driven software on

it, and will not be able to read from a device that is formatted as FAT32. You

need to Format the USB device to FAT, that is a 16 bit type format that your

machine will be able to read from. In case you do not know how to format your

USB device, I've written the instructions here.

1) Insert the USB flash stick into an open USB port on your computer.

2) Double click on MY COMPUTER found either in your desktop, or in your START

programs.

3) Find the drive that your USB device is inserted into, Usually Drive E, F, G,

etc... and right click on the mouse and select FORMAT from the dialogue box.

4) When the Format screen opens make sure that you set the FOMAT type to FAT,

Not FAT32 or NTFS.
